How can I volunteer with CWP?

If you are interested in volunteering with us, you can get in touch via email cwp.volunteering@nhs.net or phone us on 01244 397 173. Please note that you must be over 18 to volunteer with us.

Before you get in touch, please have a think about questions below so we can talk through these. This will help us find a suitable volunteering role for you.

Your goals for volunteering - knowing more about your motivations and expectations will assist us in finding a suitable opportunity for you. We also ask this because sometimes people contact us asking for volunteering opportunities, when they are actually looking for some work experience. These two options have very different application processes, so we want to ensure we are pointing you in the right direction.

Your availability - we ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months with us to begin with. Are there any particular days / times that you would prefer to volunteer with us?

We do also aim to be flexible in how we tailor our volunteering roles, so that we can accommodate each individual person’s needs.

Your location - Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is based at more than 65 different sites across the whole of Cheshire and the Wirral, and beyond. We aim to identify suitable volunteering opportunities in areas close to where people are based.

Julie' story

“As a mental health nurse who is also a volunteer with lived experience, I have been involved with all sorts over the years, including sitting on interview panels, doing patient surveys, sharing my experience with trainee psychiatrists and evens speaking at events.

“Volunteering gave me the experience I needed, which eventually led to me training as a mental health nurse.  Due to all the support I received from the Trust, I applied for a nursing post with CWP when my mental health nursing training ended.

“Volunteering gives me as much back as I put into it and really helps me to maintain and enhance my own recovery.”
