Offer of employment

If you’re successful at interview and have accepted a provisional job offer with us, we will need to carry out some pre-employment checks before you start your new role.

These will always include verification of identity and right to work in the UK, verification of employment history including references (covering a minimum of three years) and, where appropriate, verification of registration and relevant qualifications, occupational health checks and satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

It’s important to make sure you disclose any relevant information during this process and that any information you do provide is accurate. If you provide false or misleading information at any point during the recruitment process, your offer of employment will be withdrawn.

DBS checks

We would recommend that all post holders who require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for their role are registered with the DBS Update Service. You can find out more information and guidance on how to do this on the Gov.uk website.

Health clearance arrangements

You will be required to complete a confidential health questionnaire once you have been offered the post and, if necessary, you may also be asked to attend our Occupational Health department for a confidential health interview.

All healthcare workers must have medical clearance before starting work. For anyone who has patient contact in their role, this will include checks to determine your immunity status against diseases such as tuberculosis and rubella.

Healthcare workers are under an ongoing obligation to seek professional advice about the need to be tested if they have been exposed to a serious infectious disease.  In addition, and in line with Department of Health and Social Care guidance, healthcare workers new to the NHS will be offered screening for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.  These tests are conducted on a voluntary basis, and if positive, should not affect your employment or training but will instead enable the Trust to provide any support you need to manage this in the workplace.

Once all relevant checks have been completed, you will be issued with a ‘terms and conditions of employment’ letter, together with details of your induction arrangements.

Giving you time to care, space to think and opportunity to grow.

You’ll be in good company.
